It begins

[Droning arco bass note]
In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth but the earth was formless and darkness was over the surface. And God said, ‘Let there be light.’
On the second day he created the sky and on the third day he created the land.
And on the fourth day he said, ‘Screw this, I’ve got light, sky, and land, now I’ll create a little team from Flushing called the NEW YORK METS!!!!!!!!!’ (but first I’ll create Flushing)
So it must be said, so it must be done!
And on the 5th day he created GO TIME.
OH YEAH, LADIES, IT’S YOUR 2015 WORLD SERIES STARRING THE GREATEST TEAM EVER, THE METS!!!!
[crowd noise] HAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA
LET’S GO METS, LET’S GO METS. I BLESS METS, I BLESS METS!!!!

I was 11 when the 1969 New York Mets won the World Series and it is about my earliest recollection of baseball. I even remember their local media of Lindsey Nelson, Bob Murphy and Ralph Kiner. (actually got to meet Lindsey once…my mother worked as a producer of the Notre Dame football highlights show that used to be on each weekend back in the day) Had all their baseball cards. And living in Philly I was equally familiar with the Orioles as well. That remains one of my favorite series because I know how much it had to mean for the city of New York and it was exciting to have the Mets relevant being so close by geographically. Of course, your listing of Richie Ashburn brings back memories to this Philly native as well. I really believe this series is going seven so enjoy every single minute of it – it should be a great one!

I could have also mentioned Dykstra, Juan Samuel, and of course Tug McGraw was a Philly. A great blog to follow is https://wordpress.com/read/post/feed/265516/846215432. He is currently posting about the 1980 NLCS. Check it out!

Just read that post. MAN did that bring back memories. A lot of people in Philly consider that series the wildest, most memorable of all time for the Phils and that includes the World Series appearances. Thanks for sending me that way.

One of my favorite post seasons. Great memories. I always liked that Phillies team and was happy to see them win at last.
