Let the insanity begin

Posted by keithosaunders on January 26, 2017

We’re less than a week into Donald Trump’s presidency and it’s clear that we have elected a madman. He continues, without a shred of evidence,  to assert the lie that millions of people voted for Hillary Clinton illegally. He appears to want to make good on his promise to build a wall along our southern border even though it will cost billions and do little to prevent illegal immigration.  It looks like he’ll do his best to gut the EPA and inhibit efforts to contain global warming.  All in less than one week!

The folks for whom I reserve my greatest contempt, however, are the Republican Congressman and operatives.  Unlike Trump, these people know what they’re doing.  They’re gutting our countries natural resources, selling out the younger generation, feeding the rich, and taxing and imprisoning the poor.  All for their own benefit.  They can rot in hell as far as I’m concerned.

Mansplain the vote

Posted by keithosaunders on December 1, 2016

The worst thing about Trump being president is having to endure countless thinkpieces, as well as mansplaining-lectures from dullards as to how the salt of the earth rust belters cast a protest vote against the Dem machine. Two years from now while these idiotic, racist idiots scratch their heads while standing on unemployment lines I’ll be sitting in my ivory tower laughing and pointing. I can do $50.00 gigs until I die, what do I care?

But don’t tell me that Trump was employing some kind of Machiavellian strategy, pulling the wool over the American people. Please. Americans are stupid and racist enough. They saw a celebrity with racist overtones and these cretins who couldn’t accept being governed by a woman voted for the blowhard.

And fuck Hillary too. That’s the best the Dems could come up with? She’s a modern-day Ralph Kramden, not even bothering to campaign in Wisconsin. That’s how cocky she was.

Hillary: I had it and I went with it. Easy come, easy go!

So keep on writing and explaining to me, media. I’ll read every wor….[brrrrring!]

Hello? Yes? Yes? How much? 50? What time does it start?!

Comes the deplorables

Posted by keithosaunders on November 9, 2016

I was wrong.  For nine months I insisted that there is no way that the American people would elect Donald Trump.  Although we have a conservative, celebrity-driven culture, I insisted, we are not reactionary enough to elect an unintelligent, racist, misogynistic, homophobic, failed realtor.

How wrong I was.  Today, along with the rest of liberal Americans, I eat crow.  I over-estimated the intelligence of the American people.

And to the blue-collar, salt of the earth, working class Americans in Michigan, Pennsylvania, and Wisconsin I sent out a hearty and heartfelt, fuck you.   Get the fuck out of here with your high-minded morality and your hypocritical church going ways.  Because guess what?  He’s taking you down right alongside lefty, commie, kale-loving yours truly.

The fact is that you real Americans are going to need affordable health care, roads, schools, and who knows, maybe even an abortion or two.  Good luck with all of that.  Do you really believe that a crooked billionaire real estate mogul gives even the tiniest fuck about the state of blue-collar America?  If you do I was wondering if you would invest in my next recording project:  Keitho plays the music of Bud Powell.  That record has a better chance of going platinum than blue collar workers do of finding jobs under a Trump presidency.

Listening to NPR radio last night I nearly threw up in my mouth.  The general consensus was that a populist movement propelled Trump to the Whitehouse.  I call bullshit.  It was pure, unadulterated racism.  We have seen the kind of people that a Trump rally attract.  They are scum of the earth, thuggish, racist, white trash.  You can take that kind of populism and shove it up your ass.

Eight years ago I voted and for the first time in my life was proud to be an American.  Now I am ashamed to be one.  These are dark days.

Exposed

Posted by keithosaunders on November 7, 2016

The election season will come to its merciful conclusion tomorrow with the assurance that the outcome will be utterly depressing.  The most likely result, that Hillary Clinton becomes the first woman president, provides us with four more years of the status quo –   rising income inequality, the continued use of drone warfare, and a government beholden to Wall Street and corporate interests.

Of course a Trump presidency throws us back into the stone age. I don’t believe that The Donald would be more than a figurehead, but when you consider the damage that a Mike Pence and a stasi-esque Cabinet could wreak the mind boggles.

I do not believe that Trump will win, but regardless, the damage has been done.  He has exposed the racist underbelly of the United States and it is exponentially greater than was thought.  The fact that nearly half of the electorate will cast their vote for a racist, homophobic, xenophobic, narcissistic dullard speaks volumes on the state of the American psyche.

Then you have the effete liberals, practically pissing their pants in fear of a Trump victory.  I haven’t seen such pearl clutching since Zabars stopped carrying organic Camembert cheese.  Man up!  We lived through twelve years of the Bush dynasty and eight years of Reagan — we’ll make it through Trump.

Or not.  Who cares at this point?  In a country that doesn’t provide health care, wages perpetual war, rewards corrupt, predatory CEOs, punishes its working class, sentences its college goers to a life of crippling debt, and leaves its poor to scramble for minimum wage jobs, what’s the difference?

Meet the new boss, same as the old boss.

The Trump Tapes: The beginning of the end

Posted by keithosaunders on October 9, 2016

It looks like Trump is finally meeting his waterloo. Not that he had much chance of being elected even before the Trump tapes leaked yesterday.  Now, however, instead of merely losing in a landslide, we have speculation of him bowing out of the race, and it’s a foregone conclusion that his campaign will go down as the most disgraceful in history. (for now)

One wonders why these tapes couldn’t have been leaked before the primaries.  It’s hard not to be cynical.  The media, liberal and conservative alike, have been feeding us 24 hour a day Trump coverage — it has been in their interest to keep him in the race as long as possible.  Did the leaker sit on these tapes knowing he or she would get a better payday in October than in December? For that matter, how much did he make on these tapes?

We didn’t learn anything new from the tapes.  Did anyone actually believe that Trump was a gentleman?  He has spent the better part of his campaign spewing racism, sexism and xenophobia.  It’s not that far of a stretch to imagine him as a sexual predater.  When you look at the feigned shock of Trump’s running mate, Mike Pence,  it’s hard to feel anything other than revulsion.  He has no right to distance himself from Trump.  Especially considering he has all he morality of a hyenna.

The big loser is Ted Cruz.   After endorsing Trump last month, Cruz lost every shread of credibilty he had gained from his speech at the Republican convention in which he pointedly failed to endorse Trump, advising the delegates to “…vote your consience.”  I’m picturing Cruz alone in his house with a 5th of scotch smacking his forehead Chris Farley style while crying, “I’m so stupid!”

Has there ever been a person that looked forward to a debate more than Hillary Clinton is looking forward to tomorrow’s rematch with Trump?  It’s going to take all of her restraint to refrain from opening with her pattented shimmy while exclaiming, “Okay!”

The clown car has arrived

Posted by keithosaunders on July 21, 2016

The Republican convention, which will conclude tonight with a speech by the potential OOTUS (Orangutan of the United States) has not disappointed.  Outside Cleveland’s Quicken Loans Arena you have cops and media outnumbering protesters by an impressive margin, but inside the Arena is where the real crazy people are.

On Monday night Melania Trump gave a speech and we awoke Tuesday morning to the news that large chunks of it had been plagiarized from Michelle Obama’s 2008 convention speech.  The media erupted in a swarm of indignation and outrage, but can I say something?  Who cares!  So she pilfered a few lines from the first lady.  Here’s a news flash:  It’s not a rare thing for potential first ladies to speak about family values or their husbands leadership ability.

What irks me the most about this [non] scandal is you can just picture some smarmy millennial on his iphone googling away until he uncovered the ‘scandal of the century.’  I guaranteed you this kind of thing has happened before but nobody cared.

Now we all owe a debt of gratitude to Lyin’ Ted Cruz for making our Wednesday night entertainment-packed.  Cruz’s speech, in which he failed to endorse Donald Trump, while delivering the opening salvo of his 2020 campaign, was like the high school kid getting his revenge on the school bully.  My hat is off to him.  He provided the image of the convention:  The Trump family standing in shocked disbelief, frowning and scowling.

I can’t wait for tonight.

Let the bloviating begin

Posted by keithosaunders on June 9, 2016

Our long national nightmare — primary season – is finally over and the Republicans now have a giant, orange, self-aggrandizing boob as the face of their party.  Kudos.

I believe that Donald Trump is unelectable.  Demographics are against him and even his own party is not crazy about him.  Paul Ryan, that simp of a man, finally endorsed him, with caveats, but both Bush’s are not.  This week Illinois senator, Mark Kirk withdrew his support in the aftermath of the furor of Trump’s having attacked Mexican-American Judge, Gonzalo Curiel.  Most prominent Republicans will likely congeal around their nominee in the coming weeks, but it’s obvious that they’re embarrassed to do so.

Just about the only way Trump could win would be if his opposing candidate had to endure some kind of scandal.  Or possessed an unlikabilty factor.  Perhaps someone with a history of being in the center of a maelstrom of controvers…oh…

At least Hillary Clinton didn’t have an exclamation point at the end of her campaign posters like Jeb!  That’s about the only good thing I can say about her.  On Tuesday night, after the day’s primarys, the party line was that we were supposed to feel as if history was been made with the first female presidential nominee.  If the nominee had been Elizabeth Warren I would have been thrilled.  Clinton has been on the wrong side of many issues that are important to me – the Iraq war, gay marriage, and marijuana  legalization, to name a few.   Furthermore, she’s way too hawkish for me.  She even name-checked Henry Kissinger as a way of asserting her foreign policy bona fides.  That’s right, she used one of the great war criminals of our time as a way of assuring the American people that we’re in good hands.

Of all the presidential elections I’ve voted in — this is my 9th – I’m least enthusiastic about this one.  I even felt more passionate about Michael Dukakis, for God’s sake!  Come the second week of November, however, I’ll hold my nose and cast my vote for Hillary.  My motivation:  Fear of the Yuge one possessing the power to appoint Supreme Court Justices.

I’ll believe it when I see it

Posted by keithosaunders on March 24, 2016

I’ve posted before about my ambivalence, nay, my antipathy towards these political videos that are currently running rampant in the wake of the Trump storm.   My politics are to the left of most people I know, (although in the Bay Area I’m a centrist) but these videos offend me.

How is it helpful to portray Trump supporters as moronic backwoods yokels?  Sure, they are a strong demographic for him, but I know he must have supporters who are intelligent and can articulate what they like about him and dislike about the Democrats.

In the case of this particular video it seems the filmmaker has gone out of his way to find the least intelligent people possible.  I don’t see how shaming the right is going to sway a voter who is on the fence.  It’s more likely it would have the opposite effect.

I saw another video in which a reporter interviewed college students asking them who won the civil war.  Of course the video showed 5 people in rapid succession answering ‘The South’ or ‘I don’t know’ but who’s to say the interviewer didn’t ask 90 people and edited in the morons?

I’m not buying this video-happy society we live in.  Yes, folks are generally less intelligent than they were 30 years ago — how could they not be with all the de-funding of education.  But they’re not that stupid!

Get on your knees, Mitt!

Posted by keithosaunders on March 4, 2016

You can’t deny — this Trump stuff is gold.  I just woke and wondered if I dreamed that in one news cycle Trump insinuated that Mitt Romney would have blown him for an endorsement – AND – bragged about his penis size on national TV at a debate.  You can’t make this stuff up!

Trump is actually causing the Republican party leadership as much angst as Democratic voters.  You have people like Peggy Noonan talking about the breakup of the Republican Party.  That’s extreme, but even to broach something like that is remarkable.

If Trump were to win the presidency the worst damage he could do would be via Supreme Court Justice appointments.  Don’t get me wrong, this is, in and of itself, pretty bad, but it’s no worse than if Ted Cruz or Marco Rubio were making the appointments.  The Congress would not allow him to build a wall on the Mexican border, or deport Muslims.  They would be just as divisive under him as they are under Obama.

Now if only the Democrats would realize that Bernie Sanders has a much better chance of defeating Trump than Hillary Clinton.  Imagine a Sanders-Trump contest.  All the center-right Republicans would threaten to move out of the country.  Soar-ry, Canada!

Farewell to Iowa

Posted by keithosaunders on February 3, 2016

NC

And with the ceremonial tossing of the coins we bid a fond adieu to those wacky ethanol-loving folks in the Midwest for another four years.  I can’t say we’ll miss them.  Why a state without a major sports franchise has so much importance in choosing our president I’ll never know.  Here’s an idea:  Why not flip a coin to see which state primary gets to go first?  Give California a shot.  WE DON’T VOTE UNTIL JUNE 7th!

Hillary may have won the coin tosses (really?  6 for 6?) but no matter how you spin it the victory went to Bernie Sanders who battled his corporate mainstream rival to a virtual tie. If that many Iowans will vote for a ‘socialist’ this does not bode well for Clinton in the long game.

At this point we owe it to ourselves to vote for the candidate that is in our best interests and not the one who is the safest bet.  Clinton has been on the worng side of just about every issue that is important to me.  She supported the Iraq war – one of the greatest debacles in American history –  she opposed gay marriage, and her husband’s administration, with its loosening of regulations,  helped to facilitate the financial crash of the late 200os.

Furthermore, Hillary recently came out and said that there is no chance the American people will ever have a single payer health care system.  I don’t want to hear those words. Ever. It’s bad enough we have a draconian health care system (even with with ACA which is an improvement over what we had) but to hear there is virtually no chance that every American will be able to afford health care is an abomination.

The issues that Sanders is concentrating on – income disparity, affordable education for all, and an awareness that we have to do something about climate change – resonate with me, and they are resonating with a large amount of Americans.  If I was Hillary Clinton or any of the myriad proto-fascist Republican candidates I’d be concerned.
