Trump Care, or to be more apt, Death Care, was withdrawn by a House that didn’t have enough Republican votes to get it through to the Senate. I can’t seem to wrap my head around the reason for its failure. Was it because of moderate Republicans who would have to face a constituency that would find itself either uninsured or paying up the wazoola for health care? Or was it because of hard-line, conservative Republicans who thought that the bill was too generous and will not be happy until there are bread lines.
It’s hard to believe that the Trump administration thought that they could ram this bill through Congress in a month’s time and move on to gutting the infrastructure of the country via a budget bill. Talk about hubris.

As we close in on the Republican convention, anxiously awaiting the arrival of the clown car, let’s take a moment to reflect.
What upsets me the most about the Trump phenomenon is the way the media covers it. To be more specific, what the media doesn’t say about him – that he is an incurious megalomaniac that is as qualified to be president as Pete Rose is to direct a remake of Citizen Kane.
It drives me crazy when pundits break down Trump’s foreign policy or analyze his position on supply side economics. Folks, there is an elephant in the room here: The candidate is a moron. What’s more he is a self-serving, narcissistic moron.
The lifer Republicans know this and they are mortified, but what can they do but fall on their swords and back this shell of a human being? It’s the media that is doing a shameful job. I realize that ratings are up and it’s in the networks and news industry’s interest to ride the cash cow, but is there one iota of integrity left in the business?
For now let’s pull up a chair and enjoy watching the Republicans twist in the wind as they struggle to feign enthusiasm for the potential buffoon-in-chief. Bring it on!

There is no more moronic of a holiday than St Patrick’s Day. It starts when you’re a little kid in grade school and your forced – coerced – into wearing green. What is that? Training for Hitler (Trump) youth? ‘Hey you little bastards, get your conformity on!’ When I was a kid you would get pinched if you forgot to wear green, because what’s a holiday without sadism, am I right? Pogrom, anyone?
As an adult, St Patty’s day is an excuse to get your daytime drunk on. Ah, there’s nothing like puking before 12 noon. Good times. In New York, or wherever the hell else they hold parades, (Ireland, I guess) it’s another excuse for homophobia. This is a holiday that serves no purpose. Let’s eliminate it and replace it with Nat King Cole Day.

Folks it’s the end of the weekend and I’m all Trumped out so I’m giving that topic a rest for the time being.
As a freelance musician my office changes from night to night. More importantly my work station, that is to say my piano, also changes. Every once in a while I get a beautiful instrument; for instance, a seven foot Steinway with great action and a beautiful tone. This makes my job so much easier — it’s like driving a Lexus versus a Yugo. (Full disclosure, I’ve never driven either)
Most of the time I’m stuck with a dog, or at best a dowager. Don’t get me wrong, I’m not complaining. A lousy piano takes preference over me having to schlep my keyboard, even though my keyboard remains in tune in perpetuity. At this point my back’s comfort takes preference over my ear’s.
I pride myself as being the kind of pianist who can make any instrument, no matter how bad, sound good. I almost never complain about the piano because what’s the point? If I don’t like it I should shut up and bring my keyboard.
There are times when I’m playing a solo, the music is groovin,’ I’m working through dense lines, building up energy – I’m in a good mood, almost a state of euphoria – when BAM I hit a high G that sounds like a cat in heat.
It’s like I’m the lead in a movie starring opposite Marilyn Monroe when all of a sudden her character gets killed off and replaced with another love-interest…played by Irene Ryan, the actress who played Granny in the Beverly Hillbillys.
It’s times like those that I feel like Samuel L. Jackson: “I’M SICK AND TIRED OF THESE MOTHERFUCKIN’ OUT OF TUNE NOTES ON THIS MOTHERFUCKIN’ PIANO.”

It must be pretty amazing to be Donald Trump right about now. It’s not enough that he has more money than God, he had to become a reality-TV presidential candidate too? On paper this shouldn’t be happening. He’s not particularly intelligent and he’s certainly not well spoken — he sounds like a thug from Queens – and he’s not even that attractive. Yet here he is on the eve of the primaries leading the Republican field.
Once the primaries kick into full swing in a couple of weeks Trump may be singing a different tune, but for now whatever he does or says pays off in spades. Build a wall to keep Mexican immigrants out of the USA? Why not?! Refer to Megyn Kelly as a slut? Whoops, there go the poll numbers…through the roof! Skip a debate days before the Iowa Caucus? Shrewd move.
Everything Trump touches turns to gold. He’s like that guy in the twilight zone in the Vegas casino who wins no matter what number he plays. I, for one, am looking forward to an entertaining primary season. Go American people!
